Kite Surfing

 

	gg	A subtle combination of flying through the air and skating along, propelled by the wind on solid ground, water or snow - kite surfing is an exhilarating new millennium sport but, despite the unique experience it provides, it still remains relatively unknown. On water, the interplay between the effect of the wind and the waves have made kite surfing an entirely new sport in its own right.

On solid ground, you are propelled along in a buggy, on a skateboard or even on roller-skates by the 'power kite'.

On snow, this new type of sport combines the pleasures of snowboarding with the power of wind-filled sails, making it possible to take advantage of good wind conditions on relatively flat slopes. All of the above activities have been recognised by the Fédération Française de Vol Libre, the parent body for all kite surfing. Their supervision has led to the introduction of new training standards, as well as practical guidelines for participants. In practice, kite surfing appears to have a very different sports culture from flying. Its culture is much more closely related to ski-ing and surfboarding, with similar attitudes, styles of clothing, jargon and, of course, the commercial and promotional exploitation that goes with these types of sport.	gg
